Description:
Northfield Lines is seeking a reliable and organized Dispatcher to coordinate and manage our fleet of buses and drivers. The Dispatcher will be responsible for scheduling, routing, and ensuring that all trips are executed safely and efficiently. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to solve problems quickly and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage daily and weekly schedules for bus drivers
- Create efficient and effective routes to minimize travel time and fuel consumption
- Adjust schedules and routes as needed to accommodate last-minute changes or emergencies
- Provide drivers with trip details, including schedules, routes, and any special instructions
- Monitor driver progress and assist with directions or issues that arise during trips
- Ensure all trips comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS) regulations
- Monitor vehicle maintenance schedules and coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure all vehicles are in safe operating condition
- Report and document any incidents or accidents according to company procedures
- Maintain accurate records of trips, driver hours, vehicle usage, and fuel consumption
- Prepare and submit reports to management as required
- Assist with the onboarding and training of new drivers
- Coordinate with facility leadership, customer service, and other teams to ensure safe and effective operation
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent; associate’s degree or higher in logistics, transportation, or a related field preferred
- Previous experience as a dispatcher in people transportation or a related field is highly desirable
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficient with dispatching software and GPS systems
- Ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure
- Knowledge of local geography and traffic patterns is a plus
- Valid driver’s license
- CDL is preferred, but not required
- Must be able to work weekends (40-50 hours weekly)
