Description:

The Director of Safety and Driver Training is responsible for overseeing all safety protocols and driver training programs within the organization. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, develops and implements training curricula for drivers, and fosters a culture of safety and excellence. The director will lead accident investigations, manage safety audits, and continuously improve safety and training standards. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety and driver training programs for all bus operators and related staff. 
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards. 
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, identify root causes and implement corrective actions. 
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, and evaluation of drivers, ensuring high standards of performance. 
  • Maintain accurate records of training, certifications, and safety incidents. 
  • Collaborate with other departments to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement. 
  • Prepare for and run monthly Driver meetings and issue summary of meeting notes 
  • Assist with company uniform fittings and purchasing. 
  • Evaluate competency on driving skills- range and public road. 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Transportation, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in safety management and driver training within the transportation industry. 
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state safety regulations, including OSHA and DOT standards. 
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing safety and training programs. 
  • Strong analytical skills for accident investigation and risk assessment. 
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. 
  • Holds a Class B CDL (or higher) with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements and has at least 2 years of verifiable experience driving a commercial motor vehicle requiring a CDL of the same or higher class. 
  • Pass an insurability test with our current bus insurance carrier. 
  • Stay current with DOT/FMCSA/FTA regulations pertaining to position. 
  • Has good computer knowledge with ability to use Excel, Word, Powerpoint a plus
